BEIJING -- Top legislator Zhao Leji on Wednesday urged members of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee to put continuous efforts into studying and improving the ability to perform their duties.

Zhao, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, made the remarks when presiding over a lecture for the members of the 14th NPC Standing Committee, the top legislature.

Zhao stressed the importance of strengthening the members' ability to perform the duties entrusted to them by the Constitution and the law.

He pointed out that in fully implementing the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and providing legal support for advancing Chinese modernization, new and higher requirements are raised for members of the NPC Standing Committee.

He also stressed that members should combine their study with practice and in-depth research and analysis, and focus on solving practical problems.
